What if they gave a protest and no one came?

A short while ago, a helicopter hovered over the West Loop neighborhood where I work. I looked out the window and saw people on the street looking toward Halsted Street so I dashed out the door to see what was happening.

I caught the tail end of the Chicago May Day Occupy protest. And what I saw was mostly Chicago police on bicycles, which was actually quite impressive.

Later this month, Chicago is hosting the NATO Summit and protests are expected daily until and through the event.  There is certainly plenty to protest about and bring awareness of. Not that I agree with everything the protesters are saying, and in these protests the themes vary greatly. But I absolutely totally agree on their right to speak publicly and peacefully – both of which just occurred here in Chicago.

Thank God, we have right of protest in this country!
